video 2 from fever ray.

karin dreijer andersson (of the knife) is fever ray in her solo work.  just gave the self-titled album it’s second turn through, and am starting to comprehend how the (extremely mysterious) knife functions.  her brother olof dreijer’s solo act is known as dj coolof, and i’m assuming that’s where the knife gets it’s upbeat dancey vibe, whereas she seems to bring the haunting chant-like vocals, and general dark/creepy vibe.  fever ray is all of the latter, without any of the former, which is great in it’s own right.  i couldn’t decide which video i liked more, so i’m posting them both.

“What did you learn, my blue-eyed son?”

(VIDEO: A Hard Rain’s Gonna Fall by Bob Dylan, 1964)

We were almost young when I left. The world seemed ripe, and our town small. I needed the adventure of discovering myself. I knew, somehow, that things would never be the same. It’d be a long time before I returned. I wrote thousands of pages of poetry, thousands of pages of prose. I climbed mountains, crossed continents, and uncovered many truths.

But in the end, I learned more about what I’d left behind. I spent nights tumbling through the darkness, trying to re-capture a feeling I’d already known. I don’t regret being away but I still long for the feeling of home.

i don’t think the modern world can comprehend the idolatry that would currently be taking place if he had died between ‘75 and ‘79.  elvis wouldn’t even be comprable.  as more and more crap is being distributed after those years under his name though, the ratio between genius and disappointment is painful stacked on the latter.  a god damn christmas album?

WHISKEY PURFUME OF THE DAY: WHISKEY no 006 eau de toilette
A deep woodsy and amber fragrance with a surprising hint of spice and floral complexity that reveals itself over the hours. The result is a masculine scent with the magnetism of a Hollywood star.
Now you can say “it was the whiskey that turned her on” and it doesn’t sound like a date rape scandal
Buy it for your man at the Portland General Storeon Etsy.

Grizzly Bear - Cheerleader (Neon Indian ‘Sega Genesis P-Orridge’ Remix)

grizzly bear’s vocals, especially ed droste’s, go quite swimmingly with the more airy-daftpunk side of techno/dance music.  i love how many hip hop and dance artists are remixing their songs.

music video: The Rapture: “Whoo! Alright-Yeah… Uh Huh”

People don’t dance no more! They just stand there like this! They cross their arms and stare you down and drink and moan and diss!

i forgot about this song/band for two years, and then it came up in a conversation at work a few days ago but i forgot to look them up again.  glad this crossed my glance.
